- When buying canned foods, look for “low sodium”, “sodium-free” or “no added salt” products.
- Check the % Daily Value (% DV) on the Nutrition Facts table to compare products and see if a product has a little or a lot of sodium.
- Enjoy more vegetables and fruit. Use fresh or frozen instead of canned whenever possible.
- Balance out your day. If you ate a high sodium restaurant meal today, make sure you eat a lower sodium meal at home.
- Enjoy milk, fortified soy beverages and yogurt because they are low in sodium.
- Buy low-sodium canned beans, peas and lentils.
- Rinse canned vegetables to lower the sodium.
