Avoid a Quarter-Life Crisis

As a young-adult, do you know what you’re doing in your life? Do you have everything set?

In discussions with friends, many of us have experienced that insecurity. We see our peers getting married, having children and steadily advancing their careers. Although genuinely happy for their success, it does bring thoughts of what exactly am I doing with my life?

It’s easy to get lost in the crowd and compare yourself to others. This critical assessment can leave you feeling confused, inadequate and alone. As the self-doubt lingers, it may lead you to question: What am I passionate about? Is this really the job I want? Where is this relationship going? Your confidence may start to suffer and inhibit your decision-making abilities. Not surprisingly, this negative energy can slowly permeate areas of your professional and personal life.

Even if you have only a few minutes each day; stop Tweeting, Facebook creeping, checking emails and analyzing that last text message. Eliminate the noise and just be silent. It’s amazing what a little meditation can do to release that calming feeling in order to return focused and relaxed.

Better yet, find an activity that can bring some joy back into your life. Whether it’s a yoga practice or a spin class, discover an exercise that invigorates you and helps sustain those feelings of calmness. It’s during these moments that the answers you are seeking actually come to you.

My path has not been straight. I’ve taken detours, gotten lost and gone in a circle. But I continue to walk, and appreciate the present moment, as it is leading me to the place I am meant to go.

Keep moving forward and take the time to find peace amidst a crazy life.
