After recently seeing a tweet regarding middle school memories, I thought of how I had blocked out those awkward adolescent years. However, upon further reflection, I realized that I have blocked out aspects of my high school experience and even parts of my early 20’s.
In this busy world we live in, why focus on the past when there is so much to deal with in the present?
Whether it’s a painful betrayal, heartache, or just plain embarrassing moment; many of us have avoided thinking about a time we wished we would forget.
We get wrapped up in our “bubble”; working our butts off for the next promotion while balancing family, friends, a significant other and whatever additional initiatives we have on the go.
Yet, what benefit does it leave us if we pretend it never happened? How are we supposed to learn from our mistakes if we don’t consider what went wrong (or what went right?)
Perhaps, there is a reason why you lack confidence in an area of your life, are afraid of commitment or continuously have dating disasters.
Every experience, whether good or bad, is an opportunity to learn.
Own up to your past, enjoy the present and use the lessons you’ve learned as a guide on your future path.
