In June I did a liver cleanse – for 30 days I didn’t drink alcohol, consumed less caffeine (I say ‘less’ because coffee and tea are a part of my everyday schedule), ate healthier raw foods, and exercised regularly.
And the results are in: I feel great. My word of the year for 2013 is Mindset, so I knew that this cleanse would be a great test of willpower for me to see just how focused my mind was on completing this task and accomplishing my goal of caring for my body more than ever, for 30 days.
Basically, the cleanse worked like this:
I bought the Renew Life Liver Detox; took 2 capsules every morning 30 minutes before eating (or 3 hours after eating on an empty stomach) and the same thing in the evening after dinner. Since the liver helps to support other organs in the body, this cleanse particularly appealed to me.
Want to know more? This is what the detox information had to say:
What is the liver and how does it function? The liver is your largest internal organ and it performs many functions including detoxification of the body. The liver works by both filtering toxins directly and by altering toxins so that they can be removed at other stages of detoxification. The liver filters toxins from one quart of blood every minute. After the liver processes these endotoxins (produced in the body), exotoxins (from outside the body) and other wastes, they are sent to the kidneys and colon for elimination.
Liver Detox is an easy-to use, two-part cleansing and detoxification program formulated to simultaneously support, protect, stimulate and assist with the body’s natural detoxification of the liver with natural minerals, vitamins, herbs and amino acids.‡ Both the Morning Formula (Part I) and the Evening Formula (Part II) contain minerals, herbs and amino acids that promote healthy liver function.
Overall, I found that I felt better at the end of the 30 days, but for anyone wanting to try this I do have some suggestions:
- Most importantly before beginning, talk to your doctor.
- Drinking 3-4 litres of water is vital for flushing out your system of toxins
- Eat as clean and well-proportioned as you can (stay away from processed foods!)
- Exercise 4-5 times a week
- Sleep! (this was the biggest struggle for me)
Depending on who you are and what your lifestyle is like, a liver cleanse may or may not be the best kind of cleanse for you. I do however, highly recommend talking to your family doctor, a naturopath, and/or a nutritionist before deciding… each person will have their own input to give. I strongly recommend trying though – it’ll give your Lifestyle a good Kick!
